Welcome to
Ms. Enriquez and Mr. Cotto's Reading Class! "Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known." -Carl Sagan "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." -Aristotle The goal of Reading class is to become a skillful, active, passionate and fluent reader. Regardless of your current reading level, you can and WILL improve...as long as you put forth 100% effort. The skills you learn in Reading class will help you succeed in your other classes at BCCS and in college. Like variety? We will read nonfiction, fiction, short stories, poetry and drama. We will also read (and listen to) song lyrics and watch film excerpts. Using these texts, we will read like detectives: figuring out the meaning of words, making inferences, evaluating an author's argument, and analyzing characters and themes. You will reflect and write about what you read, form strong opinions, support your ideas with evidence and persuade others. You will also expand your vocabulary, mastering over 60 words by the end of the year |
